Autism News: O. Ivar Lovaas: Pioneer of Applied Behavior Analysis and Intervention for Children with Autism

Applied behavior analysis is one of the main treatments for autism.  Much of the success of applied behavior analysis in the realm of autism is due to the lifelong efforts of O. Ivar Lovaas.  An article summarizing the great achievements accomplished by Lovaas was written shortly after his death.  The article was published under the title O. Ivar Lovaas: Pioneer of Applied Behavior Analysis and Intervention for Children with Autism.

The article focuses on Lovaas’ efforts to aid with challenging behaviors and language difficulties in individuals with autism.  It also focuses on his efforts to established early intervention programs and later programs that could be overseen by parents in the home.

The article also highlights the great dedication Lovaas put into researching ABA in order to document its benefits.  His research outcomes were later widely distributed due to his work to make the information available via text, video, and public speeches.

Finally, the article focuses on the impact Lovaas made on other professionals through his enthusiasm for the topic of applied behavior analysis (ABA) in the context of autism.

The article was published in March 2011 in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders.
