Overview:

Healing Thresholds is an autism website dedicated to providing quality information on autism treatments.  This is accomplished through “therapy fact sheets” that are well referenced and through autism research and news updates.  The site also provides a listing of autism therapy providers.

The main content on the home page includes a link to a reference guide for those recently affected by an autism diagnosis.  This guide provides key information regarding simple changes that can be made to help your child with autism.  It also provides recommendations on finding a therapist and on selecting the right type of therapy for your autistic child.  The home page also provides link to updates on the latest autism news and research.

The left hand column of the home page provides a search field to locate autism therapists and providers in your area.  Further down this column you will find links to information on the top autism therapies and links to information on other autism topics.  Some of the top autism therapy links include:

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Gluten-free and Casein-free (GFCF) Diet
  • Sensory Integration
  • Social Stories
  • Visual Schedules
  • Links to several vitamins and supplements used in autism

Some of the topics found in the “other autism topics” include:

  • Aggressive Behavior
  • Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT)
  • Dentist
  • Discrete Trial Learning (DTL)
  • Feeding problems
  • Floortime
  • High Functioning Autism
  • Music Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy (OT)
  • Self-Injurious Behavior
  • Weighted Vest

Clicking these links will take you to the main information page for that particular autism subject or topic.  Here you will find either 3 or 4 informational tabs for that subject.  The tags include:

  • Factsheet (basically an overview of the topic)
  • Research
  • News
  • Comments

Although there is not a factsheet for every topic there is a research tab, news tab, and comments tab for each topic listed.

The main navigation menu at the top of each webpage also provides links to the main autism therapies, the autism service providers, and a what’s new section.  Each of these main topics has a dropdown menu that provides links to more specific topics within that subject.

Overall, Healing Thresholds is a well-designed website that provides useful information.  Although not all the information goes into great detail you are certain to find a new research article or a link to another resource to aid your information gathering process for hundreds of autism topics.
